eMILER allows you to access highway junctions between major road types in the United States and Canada.
The easiest way to enter a highway junction is as follows: enter a plus sign (+) followed by a comma and the abbreviation for the state where the junction is located. For example,
+, nj
Then click Run to run the route. This will post a warning message and provide a picklist of all highway junctions in the state. Scroll down the picklist and highlight your choice, then rerun the route.
As with other types of stop entry, a listbox can be generated which displays all the junctions for a particular highway. For example, running a route with a stop entered as:
+US 1*, NJ
will bring up a picklist of every junction in the eMILER database in New Jersey that involves US 1. Scroll down the list, highlight the correct junction, and rerun the route.
In cases where two junctions by the same highway pair occur within the same state, the junctions are designated by a location direction (N,S,E,W) relative to the location of the other junction. For example:
+I 80 US 206W, NJ
is located one mile west of
+I 80 US 206E, NJ
To designate interstate highways, use the naming convention I. For US highways, use US. For state or provincial highways, use the standard two-letter abbreviation. For example:
I 380 or US 101 or PA 100
