In the Location fields of the Route Entry page, type the full city name and the two-letter state/province abbreviation of the stops of your route, separated by a comma. The city and state do not need to be capitalized, and a space between the comma and the state initials is not necessary. The city name can be any length. Examples of the correct format are:
chicago, il
chicago,il
If the city name contains two or three words, each portion of the city name must be separated by spaces. For example:
los angeles, ca
los angeles,ca
(If you are unsure of a city’s correct spelling, or there are multiple listings of a city name, use the Spelling Helper.)
After you run your route, eMILER will return the corresponding ZIP code for the city or town, providing the locale has a ZIP code assigned to it. The corresponding county name will also be returned.
When one or more locations you enter is assigned multiple ZIP codes in the eMILER database, a pick list of those ZIP codes will become available when you attempt to run the route if "Provide Location Picklist" is selected (above the stop entry list). For each of these locations you will be prompted to make a choice from the provided picklist and then rerun the route.
Canadian place names can only be entered as the city name and province abbreviation.
Mexican place names do not have postal codes, and are now entered using Estado abbreviations; for example, "Puerto Vallarta, JA". See the Mexican Abbreviations List for correct Estado abbreviations.
If you're unsure of the correct abbreviation for a state, see North American Abbreviations List for a scrollable list of two-letter state/province abbreviations. Scroll the list if necessary to reference the abbreviation you want.
NOTE: The state abbreviations lists are reference lists and part of eMILER's on-line Help, they are not pick lists, so you won't be able to choose an item off either list for entry in the Location field.
